Which banks will accept CCJ's?

Options
I'm looking to find a new current account - have solo card acount with Natwest but am about to claim bank charges from them so am looking to open fallback a/c.

However, my credit record is not unblemished. I have settled most debts, have Natwest loan with 32 months left, 1 credit agreement & 1 ccj (satisfied) with 2 years left on its life.

I need an account with a solo card, to run my direct debits from & have my salary paid into (£1200pm) - Natwest loan will be paid by Family Allowance/tax credits or monthly standing order.

I have a savings account with First Direct (used to receive & withdraw maintenance payments) and A&L internet savings account (balance £1!).

Can anyone help? Have looked at A&L but on their website they mention CCJ's in the "further details" for the internet accounts, so didn't bother trying.

How about the Co-op's Cashminder account? It comes with a debit card in the form of an Electron card, very similar to Solo.
You get full internet banking as well, as it's a basic account you don't get a cheque book. Pay money in at any Post Office and withdraw money too.
I believe Yorkshire Bank will be updating their basic account 'The Readycash Account mid June to have Solo/Maestro.

Not many will give you a decent account with CCJ's.

Why not ask First Direct for a basic account, sometimes if you already have an account with a bank, even a savings one, they sometimes open another basic account without running a credit check ...

Probably worth a shot, just don't ask for any overdraft etc as then they'll check you.

i've just opened a new account with co op bank. i've not had 1 single charge from them. they are really good. they also give you a debit card on their basic account which most banks won't do.

I managed to get an account with hsbc with a ccj. I dont know how, but it is proper current account. Only stipulation was i had to have 3 months worth of wages paid in before they would give me a meastro card/cheque guarentee card but they did give me solo card while i waited. It may be worth a try you never know.

with a ccj you will probably be limited to a "basic bank account"
these are a special type of account the government instructed to the banks to create so that people with bad credit could have access to banking facilities.

you could search on here for "basic bank accounts" and see what you come up with or have a look here:

    http://www.fsa.gov.uk/consumer/pdfs/bank_account.pdf

that is from the government financial services authority web page

the only two accounts which come with a solo or electron are NatWest Step account with a solo card or Co-operative with their Cashminder account has an electron card.

oh and first direct probably won't touch you with a barge pole if you have a ccj.
i know this as i have been there!

i'm not sure natwest can do anything to you if you are claiming back charges - i'm claiming against them and i've got one of my basic bank accounts with them (mind you i've got a backup with co-op)

I've seen something on here (may have been from Martin) about A&L having an account they don't advertise - a sort of "more than basic but not as good as the others" type account....does anyone remember what is was & how to get one?

  • Hi Floss.I'm new to the site but you may want to try Abbey National for an account. I had some 'difficulties' a couple of years back and they took me on with no questions asked. I'm even offered preferred rates now as Ive mainly kept the account in good shape (and my salaries have increased of course). Might be worth checking out as account comes with visa delta card.
