getting off economy 7
Options
we were put on a economy 7 tarrif by EDF when we got rid of the pre payment meter that was installed in our house, we used just under £1300 over the last year for 5 people on a all electric house which is'nt unreasonable, but we are not really using the cheaper night-time electric my last bill £305 bill showed we only used £12 of nightime electric over three months.
we only have one nightstorage heater that isn't used and hot water is supposed to heat up at night (i dont think this is right as i think its b uggered and working off an imersion (sp?) as when it run's cold its heating up again but dont have the funds to get someone in to take a look)
i called EDF and they told me i couldnt come off a economy 7 tarrif due to having night storage and if i try to change supplier they will just put me on another economy 7 meter. can they do this?
many thanks

You don't have to be on E7 with night storage heaters ... but it would be incredibly expensive otherwise.
If you don't want E7, some suppliers will simply charge you at a flat rate, whilst others will wish to change the meter to a single rate one. That might cause difficulties as some circuits (e.g. the night storage one) only currently come live on off peak periods - I'm not sure how that would be handled if the meter was changed."Now to trolling as a concept. .... well i thought id add i've had a result after three more phone calls to EDF i finally got chatting to someone called JIM who actually took the time to look over my years bill's and agreed with me that im paying over the odd's with the E7 tarrif and agreed my meter should be changed, and put me thru to the meter department who got stroppy with me as they worked out id only be £1 better off each week on a standard tarrif, which the harridan im me pointed out that a £ is better off in my pocket then yours
so proves that if you bug the 'ell out of them they will do what the say they cannot

£1 per week is £52 per year. Definitely worth having"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100

I had mine swapped from two meters on E7 to a single meter on standard tariff and they also connected the E7 heating circuit to the single meter. The heating on that circuit has since been decommissioned though.0
