Hi,
I had an egg account which I closed last year. I got a spoof email saying it was from egg, so didn't open but thought I'd just check if I could still access my account on line. Result is Yes I could. I wrote to egg asking them why and could they close my account.
I received the following emails. Surely if my account is closed no one should be able to access this online.
Advice please.
Email 1
We give you 12 months to take any information that you want to keep of the Egg website which is why you can still see your account details online.
We have not sent you an email saying that there have been attempts to access your account so can you please send that to us at spoof@egg.com we will investigate.
If you have put any details in on the email we need you to contact us as we need to change your password, mothers maiden name and block your card and have a new on sent.
If you have not put any details in your security will be fine but you may want to run you anti-virus software.
Email 2
You are not able to remove this information as we need to store it safely on the account for up to 6 years after closure for data protection reasons.
The information is stored safely, and you would need to log into the account to see it.
I'm sorry for any inconvenience caused.
Thanks for the message.

It seems to be an Egg thing. I had a CC account circa 3 years ago and I could access it for a few months after.
Virgin are similar too.

They have to hold the data for 6 years for tax purposes - the online access is just supposed to be convinient for you0
