Gift Vouchers and Legalities

The OP has stated they they have noticed that the voucher has expired - if this was because they've read the expiration date on the voucher just prior to attempting to buy, then I don't see why the retailer needs to say any more at point of purchase.
Fortunately I've not learnt this the hard way but I totally understand why retailers do it (the accountants tell them to!)
There is nothing wrong with a expiry date providing it is made clear at the point of purchase.
If a expiry date was not pointed out I would argue it is a breach of the 1999 Unfair Terms In Consumer Contract Regulations, by putting the onus on the consumer to identify this term after purchase and essentially making it unfair.
It is the same as if you get a credit note any expiry should be pointed out on issue.
I understand there are several retailers who don't have expiry date on vouchers."The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

Why would the OP ring you? besides you have not told them your tele number0 -

Semantics but I believe you are driving at the point that the retailer needs to make the expiration point clear before the transaction is complete. 999 times out of a 1000, the consumer doesn't get the voucher until it has been paid for.
That being said, I have never been cited the expiration terms in a store but have never fallen foul - that being said (squared), you never purchase vouchers for yourself so how would you know?
On that basis (that being said cubed), would the average voucher purchaser be interested in the expiration policy prior to purchase? No.
Common sense: if the voucher states an expiry, read and adhere to it. If it doesn't, then take the legal line.0 -

Think it might be a typo for "give em a ring"Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

Could use a little help on this one please!
I've found a £10 voucher for a hairdressers that I was given a few years ago, with no expiration date on it at all, and nothing in the terms and conditions on the back. The salon declined it saying they no longer accept that style of voucher, but I tried to point out that, without an expiration date, they technically should.
I've tried contacting the customers services, but I'm just wondering what the outcome should be?
Thanks.0
