i now have a conflict of ip address between both!
im doing a web design course and covered virtually all of this at some stage but i just cant do it!
i cant only take staring at two screens without breaking one soon much longer
can someone please please give me a step by step guide from pluggin the router in onwards because ive given up trying

Can you tell us wot make your router is etc?
When i setup my Wifi a couple mths back, plugged in router, plugged in pc/laptop to it and boot into admin screen, type: 192.168.1.1 in IE. Put password in there and cut and paste it into txt file. I use 59 char WPA password!
Then put password on disk/portable media and copy to other machines, run software for Wifi adapter/switch wifi on on laptop and paste password into box.
This worked for me, i'd be happy to help if u need more help
Ps: U looked in the wireless link at top of this forum??Lightbulb Moment April 2006.Pay off All Debts by 31.12.2014.CC1: £5594, CC2: £164, OD1: £200,Total:£59580 -

i did what you said and copied the 63 character long network key and pasted it on the laptop and all was looking good, the connection finally seemed to be staying constant but still cant get ie or firefox and now i keep losing me desktop connection ha ha
ive learned now when i press repair on the laptop the ip address conficts with me desktop so im back to square one.
ive have read a lot of the other wirless threads and acted on a lot of advice from other people ,but just being tinkering solid since 8 this morning and feel lost.
im now back to acquring network address which i know i can change by clicking on tcp/ip properties and changin a few numbers but then the connection just keeps flicking on and off again0 -

Pizzaboy, edit your post to disguise your WAN IP address and Default Gateway. They are assigned by your ISP and having them visible makes it easier for hackers to break into your computer.0

OK, go to network connections, right click on the connection being used by the PC for internet access, click Properties, select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP),then hit the Properties tab and tick the Obtain and IP Address Automatically. OK everything and reboot. Next time the PC should be allocated an IP address from the router automatically without a conflict.0

Ok lets try this..
is it possible to plug the laptop in via a cable.. yes i know it means cables trailing everywhere but if ya can plug in via cable then at least we can test if the router is giving out an ip corrcetly..
also if ya can connect to the net via a cable to the router, if you like i can remote access the laptop for you with your permission and set it up so it will work on the wireless connection. If you would like to take this option it should only take a maximum of about 30 mins to sort and ya would then have a fully working wireless connection.. let me know via pm on here and ill give you my msn address and will sort it out that way.. once its done i shall post back here will a full explanation of what exactly ws wrong so it can help others in the future.. and dont be worried about me using remote access to help ya out, i do it all the time and always delete any trace of the session from my pc...0 -

ok thanks for the info on this,i did this and lost my desktop connection.
probably done this about three times today!
i then get that back by running the belkin cd .
every time i run the network setup wizard and add laptop to the network ,i get an error.
at this moment im not arsed about security i just want the connection back.
i am actually quite clued up on this now and have done everything people have suggested and keep suggesting ,its amazing what you can learn in such a small amount of time .
i think i been messing round with it so much over the last couple of days that ive actually made things worse
ive done the router 192.168.2.1 page god knows how many times.
i appreciate everyones help,really i do!
gonna ring a mate in the morning and get him round .0 -
using the hard wired PC go to 192.168.2.1 on your browser, then under "Utitlities" 2nd option click on "restart router" it will reset it (after about a 60sec wait) and the DHCP server on the router should re-assign new unique IPs to each connected PC/Lappy.0

ok cheers just tried that ,ive noticed if i change from dynamic to static ip i lose my connection on my desktop then change back its ok.
im still at acquiring network address on lappy ,its almost comical im going insane i mean how hard can it be,i plugged the router in tuesday from new and everything was fine apart from the security, ill just keep it in the middle of my house,i dont think i live in a high risk area.0
