There is one at the bottom of the Woodstock near the police station who are excellent at repairs. But they all will take deposit to look at it, sorry.

Egg It, mines there now, very good service but £45 to sort out any non-hardware faults which have added costs!!

Sounds like the charging jack is damaged. I've seen loads of laptops like this, when the adapter plugs into the laptop its gets stressed and breaks the jack or the solder. The part will be no more than £5 on ebay, if your any good as soldering it usually easy to do. Taking it appart and putting it back together however will take about 2 hours.

Thanks Wacko, believe it or not the man at smithfield market also hinted at this, but didnt trust him!!! as i am a woman with no idea of the 'insides of a computer', and was frightened he would take the hand out of me.

Well, i would try that idea with buying the jack etc off ebay, but wouldnt have a clue.

So any ideas of where to go in Belfast would be great - did think of putting an ad up in the students union, anyone think that that would be a good idea?

I've used them through work a few times and found them really good

They're a fair bit up the Saintfield Road but still Belfast, just !

I did this, when i put it back together i had loads of spare parts left over and it worked even less than before i started :o Ended up claiming off the house insurance and getting a new laptop.
