You don't have to be VAT registered if you're turning over less than a certain amount. Our business isn't VAT registered because we don't sell a VATable product, therefore we end up paying the VAT like everyone else.

He is not registered to operate at all, more and more is unravelling and he is now on the radar of the Trading Standards and his local authority, the latter having a new team specifically set up to target these sort of people as the hidden economy is allowing people like him to evade tax. I have evidence he has breached his contract under the Supply of Goods and Services Act so from there we will see what happens..... I might have been naive over Howdens but when you see the official paperwork you assume its correct, but I will not be ripped off by this cowboy as there are many other things that have occured... I will happily go to Court, why let them get away with this. Okay rant over now, sorry, am just fed up as am out of pocket and wanted my home all done up and it is still a building site and I have run out of money, I am a single Mum so an easy target!

Fair enough if he's a cowboy but you've got Howdens head of security involved and you know that he isn't registered with anyone. You don't have to be registered with anyone that a customer would be checking on

Not sure what you are pretending to know really, did think you asked a lot of questions but if you knew anything about my builder you would get what I am saying! Howdens have some questions to answer.... my questions.

Sorry. My wording made me sound like a nutcase. I meant the royal 'we' not me, we. I know you're on the warpath but you're going on about how he's not registered and I do not understand who you think he is supposed to be registered with but know that he isn't?

I realise that I am just one of those unfortunate people who has been conned by a builder - ho hum... but I am not totally silly although somone just felt it necessary to explain the meaning of capitalism to me on another thread, there are discrepancies that I need to deal with and will, no matter I dont think this site is for me, I have had some responses that have stated I am naive, fine, but others a little bit arrogant, not you.
