I seem to remember reading that there was a credit or charge card which offered various benefits including free annual travel insurance and entry to club class lounges at airports.

You want the MBNA Travel American Express card: https://wwwn.applyonlinenow.com/UKCCapp/Ctl/entry?sc=3amextrav_ost&mc=MBN-HP-44852-44937 or the American Express Platinum charge card: http://www.americanexpress.com/uk/benefits/platinum/platinum_hubpage.shtml0

MBNA Card only gets your access to the lounges if you pay £15/time. So depends on whether you need to use it more than 13 times/year, as the AMEX works out cheaper then.
Best using Egg card to get Lounges with their 75% discount offer!0
