Great domain name - How can I make some money

I have looked at the "official" site and have noticed that it has next to nothing in proper forum for a fanbase who can discuss various things such as best upgrades, local mechanics, and all the rest of it that you may find...
So long as you state clearly that you have no official affliation with peugeot yet redirect straight to their site I dont think there will be a problem...the copyright issues that were stated by Susie above would come into play if you were directly taking business away from them
However, there is nothing wrong with you sending off a letter or email asking them for their blessing AND their support, many companies would be really pleased that someone wants to make a fansite in dedication to them
Of course by the same token you should be aware that the vast majority of forums and sites don't actually make any significant money...just enough to break even if they are lucky so don't so it only in order to make it...do it for your passion and that will shine through later"Don't blink. Blink and you're dead. They are fast. Faster than you can believe. Don't turn your back. Don't look away. And don't blink. Good Luck" - The Doctor.0 -
i am still unsure as to how to make any money from a domain name. I have the name somethingiwant. I have asked advice but havent done anything mostly i dont understand whats said!
If anyone can help would be good.:footie:0 -
It depends if it is something that someone can use, obviously a domain-name like food.com can be claimed by anyone because it has no copyright, but tell you a true story...some time ago I was watching supernatural, and thought what a great idea it would be to register a certain site but of course WB had registered it months before any kind of mention in the show simply to stop people taking it.
If you can get hold of a name that in 10 years becomes a brandname you are sitting on a fortune and that is what people do sometimes but it is very speculative...almost like betting your life savings on Elvis Presley crash landing an alien craft on top of the Empire State Building at 00:00am 24th December 2012
(The odds of this by Ladbrokes was stated at 14M:1 ... The same odds as winning the lottery)

I have many ideas for domain-names but until you can get a presence there and traffic with advertising revenue they are as worthless as the paper they are printed on...it is when people start coming to your site that there is money to be made for what you have built, and then you have some hope of leveraging something from one of the big boys...if you have built a site for them with sustained trafficflow they may just give you a monthly stipend/royalty for taking the domain-name off your hands...
What would you prefer, a long and expensive battle with Levi jeans...or a $1000 cheque through your house every month for the rest of time?
But I think that domain-name you have is excellent, if you can build it up to something, maybe in the gadget/boys toys market you may just have something, but getting that traffic is paramount. Good luck"Don't blink. Blink and you're dead. They are fast. Faster than you can believe. Don't turn your back. Don't look away. And don't blink. Good Luck" - The Doctor.0 -
i presume that was an answer to me!
I dont know how to get started thats the thing!:footie:0 -
I don't myself sorry but I wish I did lol
I am a forums man personally but I guess the best way to start up is to figure out how your name really fits...and what people would check for it, if you have a love for boys toys and gadgets and stuff and play with them a lot you could review them and ask others in time to review and get a small userbase going...in time you will be able to approach somewhere like https://www.Iwantoneofthose.com to maybe partner up and send you free toys for you to review independantly and they send you some traffic which will in turn send up your advertising revenue which will pay for running costs...
They don't actually have a forum to use, they could probably blow you out of the water if they decided to go head to head because they already have the presence, but if you can build a user-base of 4000-5000 avid readers a month and more coming everyday that is significant enough to be able to then approach at least through an email and open lines of communication.
Something along the lines of:
Hello, My name is Red Devil and I run a small boystoys reviewing forum with a userbase of 7000 unique viewers a month and would be interested in partnering up with you for mutual benefit...I would send my minions to your site and maybe you mention my forum for people to discuss your toys and we will both benefit greatly blah blah blah
Even a big fish cannot snort at an offer to send 5000 people through its doors every month and if they are smart they will see the opportunity there...it wont cost them anything to put a link to your site somewhere, you get the traffic up which will in time pay for running and maybe other extras and they have far more sales as a result.
Of course the above is greatly simplified but it is basically what I did, I am a forum mod for a relatively small forum for a major computer game where other fansites could crush us with a sneeze and got one of the most famous and controversial computer games players in the world to do an exclusive interview with me...simply based on that initial contact because I had the balls to actually try it lol
An extremely low propotion os sites make any serious money, and not without serious financial backing but it is always possible...you just have to figure out what you have that is unique and how you can leverage it...and how you as a small fishie can grab onto the tail of a shark
Im sorry I cant be of any more help, but without a userbase that expands through word of mouth you havent got anything, once you get that you can then partner up with the big boys and start reaping in the money"Don't blink. Blink and you're dead. They are fast. Faster than you can believe. Don't turn your back. Don't look away. And don't blink. Good Luck" - The Doctor.0 -
I will contact them thanks.
if anyone has any other ideas would be great. This domain name was purchased with the intention of making a wish list service for xmas etc but decided there were too many other people at it and return would be very low.:footie:0 -

None! Adwords is the Google advertising scheme, whereby site owners pay per click on every advert that is displayed on searches or in sidebars on other websites.
Adsense is the way to publich these adverts and take a share of the cost per click.
Joe has a website selling shoes, so he pays google via an Adwords campaign to show his little advert. Every time his advert is clicked, Joe pays 20p. If Alan has displayed that advert on his website in the form of Adsense, Alan takes about 5p of the 20p that Joe has paid Google.
Adsense is, in my opinion, site decoration. Unless you have a website focused on a strong niche, the revenue per click is low, and you need a lot of clicks to make it worthwhile. Clicking adsense also navigates you away from the original website, so it is a "monetization of last resort" for a lot of website owners.
However, Adsense also provides more contextual image adverts and banners, in particular the 250x250 sized box ads. These tend to convert very well when placed in the top half of the screen, and depending on the niche, they can pay out up to £1 per click!
Going back to the OP, the brand name may well be an issue, but from my own experience it depends on how it is used. I do sail close to the wind with a few of my domain names, but I am not using them to discredit the product (like paypal-sucks for example), and I am not trying to pass myself off as the brand.
If you are monetizing it, you also need to consider the terms of the advertisers you publish. For example, you can not launch any affiliate click into eBay from a domain name that contains eBay.
My own thoughts on the domain would be to use a Wordpress Blog install, and write about a specific aspect of the brand, whilst finidng related products to promote such as bodykits, engine upgrades, but also peugeot products in Amazon and Halfords, who both have lucrative affiliate schemes. Amazon in particular, you could create your own a-store, specialising in Peugeot books and videos.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -

i didnt hear anything back. Has anyone got any ideas for this name and how you could drive traffic?:footie:0 -
Hi
Why don't you write a blog about your website? This is a good way to drive traffic. You could also write an article and do a press release. I hope this helps.
