House Extension Boundary Limits??

This is not strictly money saving although it might be if I don't end up applying for planning permision.

I have a semi detached house and I am looking to extend around the rear and free side of the house. The only issue is that there is a public path down the side of the house that i want to extend and it is only 1.35m from the existing building.

Does anyone know if there are any building regulations in relation to a set distance from a boundary.

If anyone can provide some advice it would be appreciated.

Get a booklet from the building control dpartment of the local council about planning permission. There are definitely rules when building near paths and highways.
