best credit card for using in usa, abbey ?

Looking to goto usa next year, the Santander Zero Credit Card has zero fees on cash and purchases when aboard, seems ideal, then i read this on msn money page

"All credit cards start charging interest from the day a cash withdrawal is made so interest can't be avoided, even if you clear your balance in full each month."

If i load say £1000 into my abbey credit card account (if that is possible? I know its possible with egg money) so im in credit before i go on holidays. Im i correct in saying its impossible for me to get charged any intrested fees at all, as I'm already in credit ?

How do you normally get cash in the UK?

I still use Nationwide debit card. Despite having added the Visa charges to their costs recently, it still seems a competitive way to obtain cash abroad.

    Cheers

It's possible, but would breach the T&Cs (which explicitly state you shouldn't/mustn't do it) and likely result in the card being blocked...with you 4,000 miles away from home!

  • FairFX all the way when it comes to cash.....very competitive, quick and easy to load the card, esp. if you use Maestro and avoid % from buying currency with Visa

Why can't you do that? It seems to make financial sense to me. I often load up my Barclarcard before I go abroad to avoid interest on cash withdrawals.

Because Santander specifically state that the card should not be put into credit in their revised Terms and Conditions from October 2008.

Would they really block you, though?
