Family and Friends Railcard... Do I Really Need a Kid??

If I buy a F&F Rail Card and use it to purchase 2 adults and 1 child ticket for a journey from Newcastle to Chester RTN despite not taking a child with me (we dont even have children) will I foul fall of any terms and conditions?

    Of course.

Otherwise we'd all have them to get cheap tickets to Chester etc!

You *might* be lucky, but if the inspector asks where your child is what will you say?

Can't we just show the tickets and say the child is at the toilet or somewhere else such as the refreshment carriage or speaking to their friends somewhere else on the train?

Because that's what I'm going to do, I'm not having my eyes taken out!

I don't think anyone ever thought of that one. No flies on you!

Don't know why you started this thread.

You have been given the answer to your original question, but it seems you never really wanted the advice at all!

(You will find it very expensive when you have to buy new full fare tickets on the train!)

If you use a railcard when it is not valid for your journey, you could be liable for a penalty fare. A penalty fare is typically £20 or twice the standard single fare to the next station. If your ticket is only checked just before you get to Chester, a single is £56.60 so the penalty fare would be £113.20 :o

Please don't forget to report back and let us know how you get on.

The information will be very useful to all moneysavers.

  • trust me if you say that your child in elsewhere on the train we will wait for them to come back to you, and you will be charged , your excuse will not wash!!!

its unfair on the full fare -law abiding passengers

its fraud and if we can prove it ,you can be arrested!
