Gift Aid question

Hi, I have heard about Gift Aid and that charities can get more if donators use Gift Aid, but i don't really know what it is or understand it.
My family and I have recently been doing some fundraising for the charity coeliac UK and have raised about £500.
We plan to send it to them as one cheque - is there anything we can do with Gift Aid to ensure they get the maximum possible?

Hi zebedy
If you pay enough UK income tax and/or capital gains tax youself to cover the amount of tax the charity will reclaim then you can fill out a gift-aid declaration for the charity. See link below for more info.

All the best

What Mike says is quite right, and Coeliac UK should also be able to advise you (and should be jolly grateful to you as well!)
The beauty of Gift Aid is that once you've made that simple declaration, anything you give in future is covered, AND they can reclaim anything you've given over the last six years! Brilliant!
But I don't know what the position is if you are sending a cheque which represents money raised through different events, ie not your personal gift. I know for sponsored events you can incorporate a Gift Aid declaration and tick boxes into the sponsor form, which is useful.Signature removed for peace of mind0
