Bringing a car to UK from Republic of Ireland

I am living in the UK, and a very kind relative (living in the Republic of Ireland) has offered to give me her car when she gets a new one.
The car is 5 years old, and in great condition (less than 20,000 miles - only used as a run around for her, no modifications, and in perfect working order).
Does anyone know what the procedure is for bringing a car from the Republic of Ireland?
How much it will cost?
How long it will the process take?
Is it worth it?
Any information is greatfully recieved, as I have no idea where to start looking.
thanks
