Cast aluminium guttering now over twice the price of cast iron

I have just got back from the builders merchants after pricing up replacement guttering for my house. A 6 ft length of cast iron 4.4" wide gutter, painted black, in traditional ogee shape, is around £35 per 6 ft length (excluding VAT). The same design and size in cast aluminium, unpainted, is around £60 (exc VAT) per 6 ft length.

When I expressed surprise, the guy behind the counter said the price had gone up twice recently and also that they had to keep it hidden round the back of the site.......as when it was on display it was constantly being stolen.

Plastic is not usuable on all jobs

In Edinburgh all tenemants have cast iron, Any renovation work is cast iron and all listed buildings also require cast iron

It also shows the real plumbers to the chancers...
