Argh someone keeps ringing me!

All day yesterday, and today, someone keeps ringing me. It's like when a call centre rings you, and there's no one there to start off with but then they click through and you connect to someone. But it doesn't click through, and the line hangs for a few seconds before going dead. When I do 1471 there's no number. I can't find out who it is ringing us, to tell them to stop. We're registered with TPS but still get calls from our bank, British Gas etc. I know British Gas we're trying to get in touch with my husband, and they haven't rang back since, so I'm wondering if it's them. Our phone service is with Sky, so I don't know if I can ask them to trace it?
It's sooo annoying!

Sounds like a off hook fault to me.Disconnect your extensions by removing the bottom face plate from the NTE5 master.you'll see a phone socket on the right of it.plug your phone in there.
If it stops happening, then it's more likely a extension fault. If it continues, call BT as the fault is from the NTE5 back.0 -
We keep getting a number calling dont know who it is same as OP
Leaves a message on answerphone which just says press any key to continue, repeats it a couple of times then cuts off, using up rest of recording time  Doesnt help they dont tell us who they are or what number they need us to call back. Just press any key to continue like its halfway through a voice message or something which doesnt replay.Failure is only someone elses judgement.
Without change there would be no butterflies.

Thanks for the replies. It's still happening, although not as pften. We pressed 1471 today and the number 09157 was given, though this is the first time there's been a number so not sure if it's been them all along or not. Checking 'who calls me' brings up that this 09157 number does it a lot.0

Came across this, not of much use, but I can sympathise. Been getting loads of calls myself recently from free phone number.
From whocallsme site
We've had loads of these calls tonight- have just phoned BT about them and apparently its an international 'dummy' phone number for marketing who target an area for about a week then move on. BT basically said there is nothing we can do about them, great!
I am ex directory but recently applied for house insurance so figure it's insurance companies cold calling even though I said I didn't want them to.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you.” - Oscar Wilde0 -

The other alternative is to get a free number from SIPGATE with free divert to SIPGATE voice mail, free e-mail notification of new voicemail message and free retrieval of voicemail message.
You don't have to give SIPGATE any credit card or bank account details or even your true address! But, best of all, you can get a number on any exchange in the UK!0 -
British Gas have called thee days on the trot to speak to me initially. My husband has taken the calls, its something about having central heating or care cover for it. Each time he's told them not to ring again but they're like a dog with a bone. It's very annoying. What about the vulnerable people they manage to get hold of, its soo wrong. They are so persistent. We're registered with TPS, but are BG customers.
Anyone know if the people making these calls are actually employed by British Gas or is this work outsourced.
Either way shame on British Gas !0 -
I'm getting the same from those idiots at Tiscali even though I've been TPS registered for years.
I now see 'Private' on the CLI, answer, hear the ring tone, wait for the girl to say "Hello" and hang up.
Don't they realise the damage they're doing to their reputation? No, take that back, we're talling about Talk Talk here. That's like saying Tony Blair's a pretty straight sort of guy.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
