Am I going to be in trouble with Ebay?

I have a personal account but have recently been buying to sell to see how it goes. It's going quite well so I am going do it as a part time job. I want to keep this account as personal and was going to set up a business account in the new year. Am I going to be in trouble with ebay for using a personal account for business?

I don't sell new stuff, just reconditioned old stuff so the only way anyone would notice is if they see that I'm selling the same type of thing each week. Let's say for example I sell moses baskets - I only auction one a week but if anyone looked at my history it might look a little odd.

I don't want the hassle of setting up a new account till the new year but am I likely to get found out? Anyone know the penalty if I do?

Any advice much appreciated

BTW - I'll be declaring everything for my tax return (I'm an accountant so haven't got much choice - can't really plead ignorance if found out!)

Like the rest of us :O
  • It takes less than a minute to upgrade to a business account, and it means that you are in no danger of listings being pulled/suspension (which yes, can happen.)
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine. :p

Registering as a business is very easy and you should do this immediately if you are buying things on to sell as you have different obligations as a business seller.

In any case it's not really a good idea to buy things to sell on the same ID.

I would change your account to business status if it has established good feedback and open a new personal account for buying.

    Have a look at this

Also fees are normally less. You can always open another personal account later for selling your own items

plus coverting your existing account will give you feedback rather than a new account
use a new one for buying
