Can Third Party Insurers deny liability after repairing my car!

As this is the first time i have used this, my apologies if i get it wrong.

Can anyone help please. My car was involved in an accident in August 2009. The third party hit me from behind whilst i was taking a left turn. I contacted my insurers, emailed them of photos of the accident and details of 3 witnesses. They advised me to get an estimate for repairs. A couple of days later, the third party insurer texted me to ask if they could repair the car as they had looked at the circumstances and they felt it was their insured who was responsible. Being a good person, I allowed them to repair the car. Now, over 2 months later, they have now contacted my insurers and are saying that they are disputing liability. Having spoken to them to ask why they have changed their mind, I was told that a more senior person had reviewed the file and they had made a mistake! Can they do this? Can I do anything?

This is for your insurance to deal with.

Phone them up, pass on any evidence you have with the 3rd party admitting liability, and ask them to sort it out.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

It seems odd that they volunteered liability and then subsequently retracted it.

My neighbour reversed into my car - their insurance admitted liability and offered to repair saying that I would not need to part with my excess (usually, you take your car to an approved repairer, get the work done, pay them your excess and then recover your excess via your uninsured losses insurance or privately).

They've repaired your car, I'm assuming they've not asked you for any money.

As the other poster, leave it to your insurer. The fact that the third party went into the back of you and you have witnesses means that in 99% of the case, they haven't a leg to stand on. Insurers rarely dispute these sort of accidents.
