Sky+ problems- Can you help please?

Options
We are having major problems viewing our sky plus at the moment for the last few days. Trying here first in case anyone can save me having to call the 0870 number for Sky.
It is so annoying. The picture and sound keeps glitching every few seconds. We don't lose the picture completely but it "sticks".It's as though it is struggling to find the signal all the time. We wondered if it was anything to do with the heavy winds recently but it probably isn't.
We'd tried turning off for a while. We've deleted all but one ( important) recording.
I hope it's not a problem with the set-top box. Will have to check but I think we are over the 12 month guarantee period.
Any experts floating about? Would appreciate any suggestions on what we can try. Thanks.

Hi, I am certainly not an expert but I know that you are not the only one.

Sky have been aware for some time about the problem and in the last few days issued a firmware update which in your case seems to have made it worse. There is a way for you to force a firmware download back to the previous version I think.

Rather than me repeating it all here have a look at the Sky+ forums at https://www.digitalspy.co.uk and you will see that you are not in the minority!

    Cheers

your best bet is to look at the sky+ forum on www.digitalspy.co.uk. here you will find details of all the current known issues with sky+ ( and there are usually loads ). It could be the rain and wind, sky can be very iffy in bad weather, but it could also be software issues with the box, and then the only alternative to calling them is to wait for sky to send a software update, These are quite regular.

If you don't mind losing everything in your planner (sky will tell you this anyway if you ring them) then do a full reset of your sky+ box that will reformat the hard disk. This helps in most cases as the disks get very fragmented. Go to the services menu then press 4,0,1 and select. This will take you into the installer menu. Try Planner rebuild first and if that doesn't help try the full system reset. If that still doesn't help you will have to get sky out i'm afraid.
Do not speak- unless it improves on silence.

Thanks folks. I'll give the last suggestion a try. The other forum worries me somewhat. Nothing seems to have worked.

I have read that many people are having problems with ITV freezing and losing sound. Perhaps it is another Sky software problem.
