Refund on credit card

Whenever I buy something with my CC the payment is taken within a few days, and quite often immediately.
Why is it then that when I cancel an order for something some companies (specifically on this occasion Boots Kitchen Appliances) say it will take up to 28 days for the refund to show on my account? Is this just another sneaky way of keeping my money for a bit longer or is it something out of their control?
Thanks,
L

Processing at their end I would imagine0

I think it's up to companies, they just do not want to part with customers' money  . Send an audio amp back to some company and they took 14 days to refund as mentioned on website (I think clinically exact 14 days!). Refunded something in high street shops - refund comes next day! Faster then the actual purchase which takes two!
Well, maybe it also depends on company's contract with payment processing company, maybe they are not so mean.0 -
Erm... no it is like clearing... they will take the money from your card immediately but it takes time before that money actually appears in their merchant account. At the same time when they do a refund then it goes from their account immediately but takes time to get transfered into yoursAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

Thanks all. 28 days seems a bit steep though.0
