Which card to transfer from virgin

Hi

My other half has had a virgin credit card for there 0% interest free offer on balance transfers...

Which was going fine, until he paid his last payment through the bank & it was a day late!

Following this virgin have now withdrawn the interest free period!!!!! Harsh i think as it was a geniune error.

So looking to transfer that balance off there to another card thats interest free on bal transfers.

He has this virgin card with £4k on & Halifax card with £700 & Lloyds tsb card with zero balance.

He has looked at his lloyds tsb card they will offere 6 months interest free on bal transfers, but he is trying to get a bit longer.

Any suggestions on cards to try?

Has he actually phoned Virgin and apologised?

If it's his first offence card issuers sometimes re-instate the 0% deals.

Worth a try (if only to save BT fees to the new card).

Agreed. Ring 0800 783 1116 during office hours to speak with customer retention/loyalty.

And then for goodness sake set up a minimum payment direct debit (at 1% that's only £40 on his £4,000 debt). He can still pay any extra by the method he uses now but at least he'll have an insurance policy against:

    - loss of promotional rate
    - £12 late payment fees
    - damage to his (and your, if you're financially associated) credit file

And the cost of this insurance policy?...nothing, nada, zilch. You know it makes sense!

My mum has a MBNA card with a 0% BT on it. She missed the first payment - due to the card and BT being set up whilst she was out of the country for a few weeks. It was a genuine error, and when she spoke to them, they reinstated everything and removed any charges. Definitely worth having a chat as they could well put it right.

I don't what you've heard, but Virgin is a pretty efficient operation, IME. Excellent online services are provided and good telephone back-up (no overseas call centres).

When the market-leading BT promotion ends, there are plenty of competitive follow-on offers and it's one of the few cards that allows you to route funds via your bank account at BT rates, which can be useful.

When it comes to late payments and the withdrawal of promotion rates, virtually all lenders are applying their Ts & Cs more stringently now.
People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.

Agree with Moggles. I've had the Virgin card for years and they keep giving me repeat offers. Never had a problem.

Agreed, Virgin are one of the more decent CC companies out there. I once made the cardinal sin of using the card for a purchase half way through the 12 months 0% offer. I wasn't aware of payment allocation back then but pointed out to Virgin that it's buried deep in their small print and not blatently obvious in their T&C's.To my amazment they areed and put the whole balance back (including the purchase) on 0%. I nearly fainted! but i was very nice to them didn't have a tantrum with them etc...

hi - yes, at present they have a long B/T. But do they extend these once the period is over or just give you another offer with B/T? thanks

They'll not extend a 0% period for an existing balance. However, if your balance is low, or better still, zero, they're well known for giving you another, separate, offer. And in the (dim and distant) past these were often better than the original introductory offer!

Agreeing with the comments that say good things about Virgin - good site layout, easy to use. No complaints at all... xx
