advice re: VM

hi there.
im currently with Virgin media. i have the L TV and L BB package with paperless billing and it is £28 per month.

I phoned them today and asked how much it would be to install a phoneline and to reduce to TV package (as we rarely watch 1/2 the channels). The operator said that we could drop to M TV and install a phone line and the bill would be £27.50 per month. saving off 50p per month, but i need to pay £35 installation. Which includes free evening and weekend landline calls.

Ive tried to have a look through the thread to see what everyone else is getting, but its getting me a little confused.

Basically, do you think that this is sufficient, or could i haggle a bit more? and if i could, do you know off-hand who/what i shuould say i could get?

Any help/advice/info would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks, Carla.

Depends on when your 12month period is over.

We were out of the 12 month contract, so we gave our notice to quit. We were going to potentially move to sky, but this was a bluff.

As the date got closer, the phone started to ring. It was VM.

    We were offered -

    XL Tv
    Phoneline
    10MB BB
    Free V+ Box
    Free V+ Box installation
    Free Phone line installation
    Free wireless router
    Free HDMI cable

    £30 per month.

Sometimes with virgin, more means less..

The phoneline's already in place. It's attatched to the same drop cable that runs from the street cabinet to your home & the might already be a TeleWorst/NTL or VM phone master socket in the home.
(it might be next to the TV point or where the BT Master is.
If the is,it's a matter of provisioning the line, applying to BT for a 'Number Port' if you want to keep your phone number & jumpering up the line in the Mux & Street cab.
If the is a phone point, then all you need is a 'reconnection'. (used to cost £5 when I was employed by NTL)

Good news, but very random for the thread..

If your with them for more than 3 years, cancel. Get the ball rolling, give them 28 days to cancel and wait for the offer to come. If not, ring up on day 27 and say you dont want to cancel..

Day 1 - Cancel the virgin account, your moving to sky, they will offer you a poor deal. Prob put through to special customer relations team - oh really. Go through offers, if not good enough. You still want to cancel.

Day 27 - If no offer received, ring them up to stay on..

We got to day 23-24 and the phone started to ring from them and we got the deal we wanted.
