  • It sounds like they could be RAR files . If they are you will need winrar to extract them. If they are all xvid files and ready to burn, you can burn using NERO , but you will need a dvd player that plays mpeg4 to be able to watch them. Alternatively burn then using nero vision and make them into a dvd disc which will play on a standard dvd player. Hope this helps.

(xvid is a DVD format similar to DIVX.)

queue the files up in the same way you would audio files on an album and your DVD burning software (I use nero for DVD authoring) will add them as individual chapters.

make sure your machine can play the Xvid files first as you may need a CODEC

  • pennies2pounds is 100% correct. You need winrar installed first. Then go into the folder that holds the rar files and right click the first one. Select the third winrar option which is along the lines of "extract (filename) to folder....".
This will start a chain reaction which basically unpacks all of the files and extracts the xvid file.

Regarding watching the film, you have various options:

    1. Watch it on your PC via windows media player. You may find that the movie may not play properly, i.e. you have no sound or picture. This is because you may not have the relevant codec installed on your computer. Go to http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ to download a program that will identify which codecs you require. Just do a google search for the codec that you need.

    2. Convert to dvd. This requires time and patience and is not easy if you haven't done it before. There are many ways to do this. For further information goto https://www.videohelp.com and click on the authoring tab.

    3. I traditionally have done option 2. But recently I purcahsed a dd player that plays xvid files. It cost me £35 and I ordered it from https://www.maplin.co.uk .
All you need to do if you have a dvd player that can play xvid files is burn the xvid file to a CDR (if it is a file size of 750MB or less) using nero (create data disc option). This is by far the quickest and easiest method and you also retain the quality of the film which you sometimes loose when converting it to dvd.

If you require any further help then please ask.

they want to burn them on one DVD to watch not to winrar them and then extract them! winrar/winzip has nothing to do with what they wish to accomplish

  • lawbag, he specifically states in his message that he has a bunch of 14.3mb rar files and wants to know how to amalgamate them into one. To do this you need winrar not nero.

His second part of the question does ask about how to then burn it to dvd. However, he must first be able to extract his xvid file before he can burn it.

Actually he does not state that they are rar files, They may be, or alternatively they could be just short xvid dvds.
Probably a good idea to ask the OP what the file types are!

If they are RAR files then they will obviously need to be decompressed with WinRAR first before being written with Nero or similar.

If the dvd player does not support DIV/X then they will need to be converted with something like Divx2dvd.

  • okay, I now see that he does specifically state xvid files and not rar files. I apolgogise to lawbag. however, quoting a file size of 14.3mb is the exact same size of the rar files that you download. i suspect that the original poster meant to say rar and not xvid.

ajbrynoffa: can you please confirm the file types so that exact information can be provided to help you out.
