Ebay unpaid item changes.

Looks like final value fees will be refunded after 8 days now.
Seems a strange time to introduce it, if you accept postal payment its doubtful you'd get them in 4 days right now.
We would like to remind all members that the new unpaid Item process is now in effect.
Sellers can now open an unpaid item case 4 days after the sale takes place. If a buyer still does not pay for an item after a further 4 days, the case can then be closed. At that point, a seller can get a refund of their final value fee and the buyer is no longer able to leave feedback on the transaction.
Buyers are reminded to pay for their items promptly. If buyers are unable to do so, they should contact the seller.

I think this is just another push to get all buyers to use paypal. It's a good move though for those of us sellers who are already virtually 100% paypal, no more waiting 15 days to be able to reclaim FVFs and relist, although 8 days does seem a bit smartish really.

Just noticed that - two sales from the 19th now eligable for a reminder.

I hope it's a polite reminder to the buyers, but 8 days is ample time for anyone to pay, so will be much better.

I did think the process was going to be automated so that eBay automatically sent the reminder though ?

After 7 days you can open the unpaid item dispute, then the buyer gets another 7 days to respond to it.

And if they then pay by e-cheque on the 14th day, another 7 before you are sure you have been paid !

Its good for those of us who take Paypal only but if you take cheques or PO 4 days doesn't give it time to arrive if theres's something like say a Postal strike. If you get some snotty seller who sold an item cheaper than they wanted to you could technically pay for something on a Saturday afternoon. Put a cheque in the post Monday. It could take a few days if its held up the seller though can open a dispute after 4 days after the sale. If the mail is having a really bad week you could get an upaid item strike after 8 days. Sounds a long time but if you take into account weekends or bank holidays or postal strikes. Those who take cheques and postal orders are being squeezed out.

I must remember to change my response to those threads that start its an hour after the auction and my buyer hasn't paid.

Surely this is only a problem though if the buyer does not tell you they are paying by cheque or PO? I accept both on my sales, and most buyers either complete checkout or message me to tell me they are posting payment. I wouldn't start a dispute if I knew what was happening.

For those who do not bother to communicate and send a cheque about a week later, then I would hope that the new dispute process would remind them to communicate their intentions to the seller - it would save a lot of frustration!

Your right . In the original ebay proposal for this system it was all to be automated with a NPB automatically opening after 4 days. I've only just realised this has changed. At least now they have put it back in control of the sellers.
