It means that the car behind was too close to the one in front.
in certain cases this is not true - and soem circumstances the car driver in front may be found to have contributed and to be held partly responsibleBaby Milk Action is a non-profit organisation which aims to save lives and to end the avoidable suffering caused by inappropriate infant feeding.0 -

Perhaps you could ask your friend for some exact details of situations where that might be the case.0 -
I thought it was common sense that if someone drives into the back of you, it's their fault. That's why when you learn to drive, your instructor should run through braking distances with you. So you are aware of how much distance you need to leave between yourself and the car infront so you have sufficient time to brake should the need arise.
It's just a shame that too many drivers are up your backside, tailgaiting you, especially on motorways.
Good luck with appealing against your fine (if it comes through).0 -
Just one example of when running into the back end of somebody else is not necessarily your fault. I am sure most of us have been in the situation were we are driving sensibly and leaving a reasonable braking distance when Jack Speed who has been weaving in out of traffic, overtaking and undertaking, jumps into your breaking distance. The car ahead of him suddenly brakes and he has no way out, and as he has taken your braking distance, neither have you.
In general terms if you find yourself being tailgated and are concerned about a back end shunt, imo the best way to deal with this is to slow down yourself. This will reduce the force of any impact and also give the opportunity for the a***h*** behind you to overtake.Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.

I have removed a number of posts which seemed more concerned with proving a point than discussing the issue sensibly. I hope i have left enough posts so that the conversation can still be followed. i would ask all members to consider the tone of their posts. We all have opinions, but making your points as facts rather than personal interjection about other posts keeps the forum a nicer place.
This thread now appears to have run it's course so it will be closed, but viewable for reference
