£1000 to invest!

In September, I'm getting a £1000 grant. I'm thinking about investing it somewhere, but I don't know where.

I don't need instant access to my money, but I do need to be able to get it if I need it.

I'm 18 and a student and I have no idea where to start!

  • if you are a student....are you within you allowance (ie under £4675 i think) if so, you could invest it in halifax regualr saver account. you are allowed to invest £250/month max and will earn 6.05% gross

if you are over you allowance then there are some very competitive ISAs at the moment, which you should be able to navigate to on http://www.moneysupermarket.com

you could always have a stab at premium bonds, for a bit of fun.
