My present energy supplier is Scottish Power and I am looking to change but have heard that they charge £50 if you leave them.Does anyone know if this is true?

  • there should only be a charge for any usage not yet paid for and if you have entered into a contract for a specific time and you want to cancel before the end date, eg fixed/capped price tariff

They do have early redemption charges inclusive of VAT of £30 for electricity and £20 for gas apply,on some not all of their contracts. Your need to check your T&C.

This only applies if you are still within the 12m minimum term, probably you are on a capped or fixed tarrif, most of which are ending this Autumn if you signed up last Autumn when the prices began to soar?

It also applies to tariffs where they have guaranteed a discount off the standard rate until a certain date. Not all tariffs that have a early redemption fee are for a minimum term of 12 months
  • You could always ring them and ask them that question?

Or at least find out what tariff your on and someone can give you a definitive Yay or Nay.
