Can't help with the wine but Dunelm Mills do a nice wooden bottle box for £1.99. Wrap bottle in tissue and it looks quite classy and a bit more "up market" than a bottle bag.0

It's my Boss' 60th birthday soon and asked his wife what he would like, which she replied he likes a good bottle of red wine.
I don't have a clue about wine, so really don't know which one to buy
I would like a really decent bottle, not too expensive, that he's gonna be impressed with. Preferably from somewhere like Tesco so it's easy for me to find!
Can anyone suggest one please?
Many thanks in advance

OK, this is a bit left field, a bit of lateral thinking outside of the box.
How about something just a little bit different ?
If he likes a "good red wine" he may well have had 100's of bottles of red wine in his 59+ years on this planet.
He may well get them regularly for his birthday & Xmas. (especially if it's the 1st thing his wife thought of)
He may well get some for his forthcoming 60th from several people other than yourself, his relatives, friends and colleagues may have the same idea.
I've just posted on another thread about ICEWINE.
It's NOT RED, it's WHITE and it's VERY SWEET, but it is rather different and the taste was OUT OF THIS WORLD.
The 25cl bottle I sampled at COSTCO was about £11 - rather expensive (as said below this equates to £33 a bottle) - but this is something he might keep just for himself to sample on a very special occasion (and not share with others like he might with a "normal" bottle of red - irrespective of "how good it might be") given that the amount (25cl) is what you get in a large glass at most pubs these days.
Just a thought !How about Ice wine
Grapes for ice wine, still frozen on the vine
Ice wine (or icewine, as one word, or in German, Eiswein) is a type of dessert wine produced from grapes that have been frozen while still on the vine. The sugars and other dissolved solids do not freeze, but the water does, allowing a more concentrated grape must to be pressed from the frozen grapes, resulting in a smaller amount of more concentrated, very sweet wine. With ice wines, the freezing happens before the fermentation, not afterwards. Due to the labour-intense and risky production process resulting in relatively small amounts of wine, ice wines are generally quite expensive.Tasted some of this today at Costco
It was Jackson-Triggs 2007 Vidal Ice Wine
EXCEPTIONALLY FANTASTICALLY SUPERB :j
For a VERY SPECIAL OCCASION - where you need a sweet or dessert wine - I'd put this top of the list.
It's very liqueur like, a bit gloopy, but the taste is out of this world.
As posted above - IT AIN'T CHEAP !!!!
Just 25cl will set you back about £11 - putting that in terms of a normal bottle context of 75cl - it's £33 a bottleThere are 10 types of people in the world. ‹(•¿•)›(11)A104.28S94.98O112.46N86.73D101.02(12)J130.63F126.76M134.38A200.98M156.30J95.56J102.85A175.93

Remember seeing somewhere you can get personalised messages (photos) put onto wine - If you have a sainsburys card you can use nectar points it also tells you a bit about the wine http://www.nectarwineclub.com/xsite.aspx?xsite=spendpoints.xml&navid=spendpoints
