Since changing my Gateway laptop from Vista to Windows 7 my laptop no longer "sees" the DVD drive!! Does anyone know what to do to "get it back"?
Also is it possible to scrap Windows 7 and put Vista back onto the laptop if I really don't like Windows 7?
Thanks

yes you can go back to vista with the restore disk that came with your laptop.
2 reasons for not seeing drive...1. No driver installed with windows 7, 2. drive is disabled in BIOS, this sometimes happens when upgrading. go into BIOS and make sure it's enabled. Also i doubt gateway have an updated driver for W7 this quick.0 -
How do you change the settings in the BIOS?0

If the above doesn't help, the DVD drive might just not have a drive letter assigned to it - it's there, but you can't see it in Windows Explorer. You should be able to assign a drive letter using the Computer Management Console: http://www.windows7update.com/Windows7-Computer-Management.htmlHow do you change the settings in the BIOS?
You can usually access the BIOS settings by pressing a key almost as soon as the PC boots (before Windows starts). You may (or may not) see something like "Press DEL for SETUP". If it's not the DEL key, it's likely to be a function key F1 to F12. You should see an option to change the boot device order. Be careful you don't change any other settings, though!0 -
My guess would be the driver need installing. You will be able to find it online.
Checking in the BIOS would be my second guess. This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.0 -
I doubt youll get it working with windows 7:idea:0
