Oopps!

I opened a Barclays Young Persons Account (after being declined for a Barclays Bank Account due to amount of searches) last week. I received my PIN yesterday, and debit card today (even though I thought there was a postal strike on?).

I transferred all of my money in my HSBC account to my Barclays account using internet banking, as I had my card and PIN and thought I could therefore use that card/account now.

I opened the PIN letter, scratched off the scratchy stuff with my nail to reveal the PIN (didn't have a coin near) and I've scratched off the PIN number with the scratchy stuff. I can only see the first 2 digits. The last 2 are gone.

Oops! Now I have all my money sitting in the account, and I cannot use the card as I don't have a PIN and must wait for a new pin now.

Big oops. :p:rotfl:

only thing you can do is go to the bank with passport and explain (they should give you money without pin)
  • Cant you transfer it back to HSBC?
You won't need a PIN for that or have you not registered for internet banking with Barclays?

I don't like the idea of scratching the silver scratchy stuff to reveal the PIN. After scratching it, the PIN is quite hard to read. You need to put it against a piece of paper to have the PIN read properly, or put it through a light. Most banks don't use that. It's just peel the part where the PIN is hidden, and the PIN is revealed properly.

Just call the number on the letter, and request a new PIN.

I think you get upgraded to an 'adult' account automatically when you reach 18. Most banks do this I believe.

The online banking details will come next week. You will receive your membership number first, then your passcode.

I'm already 18, (19 in two months), so hopefully they'll change my account then. As for transferring back the money to HSBC, Barclays telephone banking said as I wasn't registered for telephone banking, they'd have to send me a telephone banking pin before I can make external transfers. I also cannot make transfers online as I have to use the PIN Sentry thing they sent me to make transfers. I can only view my balance without the pin sentry.

    Oops.

    Oops.

Does your Young Person's account debit card has a contactless function, and starts with 4658 (full authorisation) without cheque guarentee? Just curious.

As for the telephone banking stuff, you need a membership number and passcode to use it. So wait for two seperate letters about this. For the time being, could you try going to a Barclays branch, and ask them to transfer the money to your HSBC account?

As for the PINsentry device, order it either in branch or through telephone/online banking. When I had my account, the device wasn't ordered for me. I think you need to do it yourself.

My card doesn't have contactless function (the logo isn't there anyway). It does start with 4658 and doesn't have cheque guarantee.

I've already got a pin sentry from when I had an account with them a while ago. I just need a pin number to login to full internet banking with my card.

I've got a credit card so I'll just use that for the next few days until I get my pin.

You can phone them and get your PIN,then go in branch with your card and explain the situation. This happened to me three times, and each time I could go in-branch and taken money out over the counter
