It's a shame if Halifax did not discuss products which might help you. They are, as already mentioned on other threads, a loan, a 0% credit card, and, when you get your overdraft below £300, but can't get rid off it in total, a Halifax Ultimate Reward account. If you can get your overdraft down to this figure the Ultimate Reward would cost £7.50 per month taking into account the £5 reward. If you cannot get a better deal with another bank you might as well switch to the Reward account on 6 December as the charges on the Reward and ordinary current account will be the same.

We were told to apply for a loan together , one that clear an existing loan and the overdraft...meaning just one payment that we can afford to pay. Yet when she but it through it was declined due to me being a student which she knew about as soon as we went into the meeting:rolleyes:. To top everything off this week , my husband was advised by a staff member of the bank to take get a credit card with them , with a balance high enough to cover the overdrafts, and withdraw that amount in CASH!!!, and use this the pay of our O/d's....Christ even i know thats just stupid, or maybe i am missing something.

We also do have a credit card that we have been very careful with, yet the interest free runs out very soon, and as we just applied for this loan we can not be sure of getting a new one.

Is it stupid if it works out cheaper than paying a £1 a day fee?

While not something that should usually be considered, this situation can create individual circumstances where paying 20% APR on a cash advance is better than paying £30 a month in fees.

The Debt-free Wannabe part of this forum is excellent as a starting point for that sort of thing.

It's not face to face but it will certainly help you to find ways to up your income a little and reduce your outgoings too.

Ive been accepted for a current account with the A&L.

Theyre giving me £100 for opening the account, £25 for being recommended by a colleague at work (he gets £25 too). Then I intend to 'recomend' my girlfriend to get a further £25 each.

They will match my current overdraft and allow me it 0% for 12 months too!!!

Not all banks will follow the lead of the Halifax, certainly not after the rift its caused.

Either way £275 in cashback for my girlfriend and I is more than enough an incentive.

The icing on the cake for me and the reason Ive chosen to leave the Bank of Scotland (Halifax) was them sending me spam about bank loans days after notification of these new charges.

Do they take us for mugs?

Cheerio Bank of Scotland, have been with you since birth!!!!

Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.

They may match your overdraft it is not guaranteed.
You could have got more cashback by applying via a cashback site such as topcashback or quidco.
