Working on a call-out basis

I got a call from the agency about a company wanting to interview me for an IT job, which requires working on a call-out basis in line with business needs and company policy. I hope I won't need to be 'called out' everyday, especially in odd times at night. I don't have a car, and buses don't operate at certain times at night. I'm quite surprised that I got invited for an interview, despite not knowing how to drive!
When they mean 'working on a call-out basis', does it mean working out of hours, usually 'odd' hours? For example, 9pm-12am, 12am-2am, etc...?
If any of you have a job that requires working on a call-out basis, I would like to know your experiences.

Usually call out means that you are available at specific times, ie after normal hours. Call out may just be at the end of a phone to provide advice and assistance and not actually leaving your home.
You just need to log the actual time that you worked as that is the time that you will be paid for.0 -
call out time = no beer, in case you need to drive
depends on nature of job. my mate (I am not in IT myself) foxes most callouts from webbrowser at home. 5 he calls a guy to get a server reboot. 5% he has to move.Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0
