Help, I had my home reposessed earlier this year. Me and my partner split up. I had to work away to earn money. I've come back and now I have a debt of 23k, I hope that this is joint. Before I ring them could anyone tell me the best course of action to take.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

The debt was with GE Money but Direct Legal Collections are now dealing with it.0

No it is a joint and severable liability, which means you are both liable for the whole amount.
It is just a question who they can get it off:rolleyes:
And just to clarify, they can only collect the debt amount once, but dont care how it is divided.
they dont care if one ends up paying it all
PS GE Money are Gits to deal with, no surprise they dumped it on a DCA sharpish
Have you had a notice of assignment?Thats it, i am done, Blind-as-a-Bat has left the forum, for good this time, there is no way I can recover this account, as the password was random, and not recorded, and the email used no longer exits, nor can be recovered to recover the account, goodbye all ………….

It's a letter to say that one creditor has taken over the debt from another creditor.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0

On the letter it says that my account has been referred to Direct Legal Collections by GE Money.0

Bat will confirm this but I think GE Money should write to you to say it has been passed on to DLC.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0

I am sorry, but that is a hard one to answer without knowing a lot more.
And it will get a bit personal i am afraid.
As in are you and your ex on speaking terms? can you come to some amicable agreemant to put forward to re-pay the debt?
Thats if your in a position to afford to make an offer that is

I know what your thinking tiger, but unfortunatly it is classed as served if sent to the last known address.
I am reading between the lines here a bit and may be wrong, but if the OP did not leave a forwarding address, not recieving the notice may not be of any use
Thats assuming it has been assigned absolutly to DLC (GE's normaly does) and they are not just acting as agentsThats it, i am done, Blind-as-a-Bat has left the forum, for good this time, there is no way I can recover this account, as the password was random, and not recorded, and the email used no longer exits, nor can be recovered to recover the account, goodbye all ………….
