PayPal Fraud Victim. Help!

Paypal refunded a buyer of my brother in law's Wii, 4 games and 2 controlers, after sending me a message on e bay to saying "item does not work".

I replied it was working when we packed it, please try again.

I had no response and assumed all is well.

Two weeks later I went to buy an item on e bay to find my paypal account in a minus, I checked my 2nd mail account that i used for net shopping and I had two messages from paypal saying a despute was lodged and to respond, then 4 days later to say they had refunded the money to him.

I messaged the seller to ask for the items return.

After many many frustrating weeks of calls and messages to paypal they messaged him for the Wii to be returned.

Suprise suprise after investigation the guy does not exist and is a fraudster. Paypal confirmed this to be the case but insist on me paying them the money back to bring my account to zero. I of course gave my brother in law his money once the item was purchased and am now out of pocket £165.

Paypal have helpfully informed me even though I had recorded the delivery and the item was definately recieved I do not qualify for seller protection as I do not pay for their "premier account".

We think our paypal transactions are safe.....

Anyone have any idea of how I can get my £165 back or had the same problem. any advice is happily accepted.

Many thanks

Anthony

  • Tell them you will go to the financial ombudsman and do so, quickly. they are the only people Paypal have to answer to in the UK.

Theres obviously more to this. As for the premier account you do not have to pay for it. So not sure where you got that info from.
