HELP! Car will not start. Engine does not turn over

If your car starts with jump leads, then the problem is in your battery/alternator area, not the starter motor!0

Thanks for the responses.
The car is on a drive way with a bit of a slope. So, with the car switched off and in 1st gear, I released the handbrake and clutch down. As the car moved a little bit I immediately let go of the clutch, hoping this will have the same effect as rocking. I then tried starting again. Nothing! Must be really jammed.
The car starts when I jump start it though, which is good news in itself.
I'll try and locate a second hand starter motor or refurbish the one I have.
Thanks to you all for your helpul friendly advice.
thanked you but meant to quote. If you had the ignition OFF and in 1st gear, letting the clutch out WON'T start the car. The ignition needs to be on! And 2nd gear is better. And as said, if the car starts when you use jump leads may be the battery instead?0 -

Running it down a slope is one way only so not the same a rocking as far as freeing a stuck starter is concerned.
But, if it starts with jump leads then the starter is fine and the problem is elsewhere, almost certainly battery related.0 -
Ooopp, sorry I did not mean jump starting via leads but by jumping the clutch. This started the car."I think I spent 72.75% of my life last year in the office. I need a new job!!"0
