Phoning to a UK mobile abroad ?

I have looked on the MSE Callchecker and cannot find out how to search for the cheapest way of calling a UK based mobile abroad. For instance my son & family are on holiday in Cyprus and he asked me to text him with some information, which took ages. It would have been much more suitable to have called and spoken to him on his mobile, but what is the cheapest way of doing it? Also would he incur charges for the incoming call ?

The cheapest way to call a UK mobile (regardless of where it is in the world) from a BT landline, is by using the MSE UK Callchecker.

It will cost the same if the mobile is in the UK, Russia, Australia or anywhere else.

However, the called party will have to pay a substantial amount to receive the call - but that's not your fault, is it?

Anyone not wiling to accept such charges for receiving a call whilst abroad will, of course, leave their mobile at home.

Why did it take ages to text?

It is by far the cheapest way to keep in contact when someone is abroad,

I am just back from Cyprus and kept in touch with home by text no problem.

It depends on the links between the networks and also sometimes luck; the delay for text message transmission is anywhere between seconds to a few minutes.

If you call a UK-based mobile while it's abroad, you still pay for calling a UK mobile - the recipient pays the rest of the call costs.
