can credit notes be refunded?

I would like to know if credit notes should be refunded because we ordered OH,s wedding jacket and waistcoat from a company online almost 2 weeks ago using mainly a credit note for payment and an additional balance paid of about £32.The credit note was for around £145 for items OH had tried on and returned. We knew we were getting the outfit from that same company so asked for the refund amount to be put towards the new order instead of refunded to our card. The company gave us a credit note code to use on the new order.
Problem is the parcel didnt arrive,It was sent recorded delivery but its gone missing. The company say they dont have a replacement outfit to send in the same size right now and offered us a refund,a refund for around £32.But surely they should refund the full amount as the credit note was in place of cash they have already recieved from us.This way we are out of pocket £145 for nothing.
So what do I do re the credit note not being refunded.

Do you mean they are not giving you the credit note back?
How long ago were you originally given the credit note?
Have you tried to speak to a manager about exactly what they have done?It just sounds like procedural problem to me.0 -
Is it possible that you are being given a refund for the extra you put to the second order and that they will still honour the credit note against a future order?
Just out of interest, why did you accept a credit note for items returned to an online company?0 -
Thanks. They have offered us another credit note but only a refund to the bank card we used of the £32 extra we paid for the new order. But the thing is we wont use it now as they wont have replacemnet items in time for the wedding. We could have had a full refund for the original returned order 3 weeks ago but asked them not to refund the card as it took a few days to get to the bank account again but instead to treat it as a credit towards the next order which was made immediately.
I think they should refund us the small amount because we only requested the credit note instead of a refund to save time. Now we will have £145 credit note for a company we wont use again."Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0 -
You should have taken the refund really. I think under trading law, once a credit note has been issued then this can't be refunded (I had a similar issue with Toys R Us years ago) although you could appeal to the company's better nature as they are not able to complete their side of the contract.0
