Barclaycard Tease!!

Hello all, my first post here as I'm fuming!
Applied to Barclaycard to improve my credit rating as assured by Experian checker I was elligible and accepted. Got a text from Barclaycard telling me what my limit would be. Then got a letter saying they couldn't confirm some of the details I'd provided so I had to send in usual address confirmation. Did this via a branch due to the postal strike this week. Recieved my card yesterday and called this morning to find out if my account had since been activated so I could activate the card.

Now for the good bits...
Seems that my account had been closed as they have recently changed their acceptance criteria and were re-assessing all customers!! I am no longer elligible! Wonderfully organised Barclaycard!
Then I call Customer Services (so called) to try to find out more information (and vent a bit more). I get put through by them without any warning to somebody who asks all the same details again and doesn't even know why I was calling! They proceed to tell me that it was only a provisional acceptance, and internal checks meant I wasn't elligible (??!!) at which point I told her that I was a little annoyed in that case as the previous time I called I was clearly lied to. She then told me that I hadn't been lied to and that what I was first told was in fact true. So she just lied to me then? Response - No. Me - But you did either way? Response - No, we can't give any information other than your account is closed. Me - But you just have???!!! Response - I can't tell you anymore. Me - ARGGH!!!!

Seriously BAD customer service and total lack of respect for customers. Don't use Barclaycard folks, I'm still incredulous to the awful treatment I've recieved in my less than a week with them!!

An Experian credit report is invaluable, but Experian credit card recommendations aren't very reliable. The CRAs don't know about your income for one thing. Also, when it comes to cc recommendations, don't forget their on lead commissions.

May I ask whether you're on the electoral roll at your current address? If so, have you checked all three agencies have your electoral status recorded correctly?

Also note that you checked Experian.

barclaycard check Equifax - the data may be slightly different ;)
    Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48
  • Thanks both, I will check, but my main point is that they sent me the card, texts telling me my credit limit, people I spoke to beforehand assured me sending the extra documents was just a formality, blah blah... They really shouldn't have done any of that if they hadn't actually accepted the application yet! I wasted so much time and effort, it's ridiculous.
I have a Capital One credit builder jobby so don't see why this one would be any different anyway.
  • Checked Equifax, quel surprise, no different than experian. And still no clue as to why Barclaycard suddenly don't want my business. Rubbish!

How strange. I wonder what could have changed for them in that short space of time.

When I applied for mine I had almost forgotten about it and then the card turned up out of the blue.

    Odd business practice sometimes.

Why? Was there a thread about Barclaycard issuing cards and cancelling them a few days later?

I must have missed that one.
