Buyer wishes to collect... Cash or Paypal?

Hi, I've just sold a bag on ebay for a friend. It was a designed bag and sold for over £300. The buyer has emailed me and asked if she could arrange for the bag to be collected. I remember reading somewhere that if the item is paid for by paypal then collected that because the item isn't trackable the buyer could say that it hasn't been received. I'm not entirely sure I've got that right tho. Should I advise my friend to ask for cash on collection? Not sure what the best thing to do is.

What's the buyers feedback like? If your friend has any doubt l'd decline the collecting and send on 24hr postage (with insurance and signature collected on delivery that you can later get confirmation of) just to be sure.
If you do collect you can buy pens that can check the notes she gives you are genuine, take their car numberplate and a sneaky photo of them leaving with bag?? (lol not trying to be OTT but just safe as possible).
all things considered l'd go with sending the bag, it would have been better if she'd messaged your friend beforehand and asked if she could collect on winning and not spring this on her now.

Cash on collection as you have no proof of the item being delivered, unless they are arranging a courier and make sure you get a tracking reference!
No problem with PayPal if the item is being posted, send it tracked and make sure the service covers the cost of the item being sent.Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.0 -
Thanks for the info! Really helpful x0

Friend of mine listed a cooker on ebay and agreed a price of £75 for it, the buyer turned up and knocked her down to £70. She agreed and the customer handed over the cash, but she didn't count it until she was driving away down her road...oops!:o;)Thanks;)0

Pretty sure you're not allowed to barter on a previously agreed eBay price.
That's shocking, the buyer has agreed to pay a price, turns up, and expects to pay less.0 -
Paypal every time, only way to keep it visible & trackable.
My friend sold a cooker on Ebay (similar to another poster), agreed to cash on collection, buyer turned up, decided he didn't like it, then left. My friend was left with an unsold cooker and the usual hoops to jump through with with Ebay to get the NPB strike done.
Worth the Paypal fees just to make sure you get the money.£2 Savers Club 2016 #21 £14/£250

The issue is of course that a claim for item not received from a scamming buyer pretty soon means seller doesnt have any of the money at all, nor the goods.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. But if you accept it your open to Scammers. They can just claim item not received through paypal and you cannot prove delivery so they will be refunded and end up with item and money. At least with an unsold item you still have the item to sell after0 -
You could try this - i haven't tried it myself but thought of it a while back.
When someone wins an item and wants to collect the goods send them your address and collection details by recorded post. Surely that way if they pick it up and then try to say they never received the item you have proof for paypal and ebay that you have sent something to them. It may add a day or two to the process but if its valuable like this handbag it's worht the wait.0 -

The buyer could argue because your sending a letter and the postage cost won't add up0
