Backpacker in need of Credit Card advice

Hi,

Am currently on a post-uni gap year and am running low on money due to some unexpected circumstances. What is the best option for me? I have a job starting in February 2010 and so will be able to start repaying from then.

I was wondering if it would be easy to get a 0% interest credit card. Or would a loan be better?

At the moment I am in New Zealand and so will this make it difficult/impossible for me to sort a credit card out?

I'm hoping to borrow 4 - 5k if possible.

Thanks in advance for any help!

If you've got no income, you may struggle to get the credit limit and APR you're after.
  • Thanks for the reply.

Does anyone have any idea which loans/credit cards would be best to apply for in terms of ease of acceptance for somebody in my situation?

    Thanks,

    Liane

The problem is the depending on your history (if your just out of uni- the assumption is your young with not a great deal of credit history which means it can be hard). With no/little income the cards tend to have low limits and/or high APR with the best rates- 0% for a long time reserved for those with good history.

You can try but I wouldn't get too hopeful!
