A place I look after is a few greenhouses next to a mobile home....
.. do they have the right to just change it over to a business tariff if only used for a mobile home? Albeit only residentially used a month in a year.

But it's not only a mobile home is it?
It appears to be a few greenhouses with a predominately unoccupied mobile home next to it.
The decision on whether it is residential or business is decided on what the main use of the energy is.
In this case it appears to be for use in the greenhouses."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

...Suppliers classify gas and electricity consumers according to the primary use of the energy...
...A domestic customer is defined in the standard supply licence conditions as 'a customer supplied or requiring to be supplied with gas or electricity at a domestic premises'. Domestic premises are defined as 'premises at which supply is taken wholly or mainly for domestic purposes'.,,,
...Effectively domestic means just that, someone’s home...
I guess the issue here is, what is the primary use of the mobile home? Is it currently or intended primarily to be someones home, or is it simply a place for workers in the greenhouses to seek shelter and make a brew?
If it was intended primarily to be someones home, it should be liable to council tax, even if that council tax is currently 50% or even 0% because of the circumstances."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Surely the fact that you are looking after the greenhouses indicates that the hut is not a residence or a holiday home but is part of a worksite?
Who owns the greenhouses? Are you employed to look after them? For whom are you looking after them?0 -

I think you need to clarify the council tax or business rates status of this building with your LA, the utilities status should follow from that.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

the way I see it is simple. If the greenhouse isnt used for actual business purposes, ie. is just a hobby, then you should be on a residental tariff not business.0
