uswitch service - help

I punched in all the relevant details on this site and it came up with Powergen every time (using kwh/year or monthly spend or last bill) so I signed up to switch. Speaking with a friend, she said she tried the other sites you mention - unravelit it, simply switch etc. I punched in exactly the same info but each of these came up with a better saving from British Gas! How can this be? I phoned uswitch who confirmed they were independent but could not comment cos they couldn't see the info I had put in. I asked them to cancel my application (she wasnt too happy) and asked for confirmation - which they dont send out (although they were quick to email when I signed up) and I have to phone again to ensure they have cancelled. Should I also contact Powergen in case they carry on setting up???

Has anyone else had this problem because I am feeling rather confused and a bit like the "independent financial adviser who is attached to a company" scenario.

Appreciate any advice please.

Maybe this will explain why they didn't show British Gas:

Although uswitch do show all suppliers, may sure you check all the options on the search page as they have options like social tariffs and only suppliers that they will handle the switch for (they have a deal with).

Thanks very much - understand now! However, this then puts me in doubt to use uswitch - what does Martin recommend please?

Yes, phone and write (recorded delivery) to the company you were switching too, because Uswitch won't bother. They have already sent your details on and collected their fee so they don't care.
Also call your current supplier and tell them about it to. Make sure you give them exact details otherwise they may block all transfers, including the one you do want.

I think its energyhelpline.co.uk that Martin recommends as an unbiased switching site.
