Paypal foreign exchange fee

I manages to get my foreign exchange fee refunded ( after much chasing) when I used my ARGOS MASTERCARD when I paid paypal in sterling. They said the charge was valid & complied with their terms and condition which said "a charge MAY be made to a sterling transaction if the merchants website is bases abroad" - which PAYPALs is.
The refund was a gesture of goodwill, and that they had not made a mistake.
Unconnectedly - I think - last week Argos wrote to me saying these charges were a mistake, and gave me a refund AGAIN. I don't think they know what they are doing.0 -
Better to complain to Argos about this. Looks like the one who complained about this 2 years ago has gotten a refund after 15 months of waiting. What the?!!

Hi there, my thread just been linked in so hello.
I didn't complain to them when they charged me the foreign exchange fee, I moved my Paypal transactions back to my BoS card.
I think I got the same letter as Freds Friend about a mistake with some overseas transactions being charged a foreign exchange fee even though they were in sterling, it was quite general but did mention Paypal as an example of a company that might been been affected. Letter arrived last week, dated middle of February about the same time as the refund hit my card.0 -
Just got a letter from Argos apologising for the mistake with Paypal and refunding my card.
Can't remember if I put a complaint in or not. It seems like a general letter.
BUT does it mean that if I use my Argos Mastercard for Paypal again I won't be charged??? Should be the case but.... ??
Maybe MSE could check that out. There must be a forum to ask such things. I'll seek it out and ask them to check that the refund applies to everyone and if the card will be foreign exchange fee free for future purchases via paypal.
Cheers!
