Moving house and keeping number

I currently have A Talk Talk phone line & tiscali broadband. We're moving house later this year and would like to keep the same number as used for business. The new house is in a different exchange area in the same city to our current flat.
I've heard that TT can't move the number to another property, so Im thinking of switching back to BT for the phone line and then getting them to do the number move. I think new house has a disconnected line at present so would have to pay/take advantage of free connection offer.
Not particularly worried about the BB as may get a sky Tv and BB package at new house. Not tied into any contracts with anybody at the moment.
Not sure what the best course of action is. Does anyone have experience of these problems? Help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You cant keep the same number whoever you are with, unless you are moving within the same exchange area.0

You can't transfer it to a normal landline, but you could transfer it to a VOIP account, such as Vonage.

I can recommend VOIP too, I use Sipgate, there was a £20 charge to transfer my landline number over.
However be careful!
When you transfer your number this usually means you are cancelling you old landline.
So if you transfer it before you move, you could find that your landline and ADSL Broadband is cut off.0
