Sale of number plate, advice please.

I have listed a cherished number on Ebay, it is currently on a retention certificate. What I was wondering was, what is the simplest proceedure should the number sell ?.

From what I understand, I just need the new owners details and send the retention certificate off to the DVLA with their name and address filled in, this is then returned to me, then I send it to the new owners. Have I understood this correctly ?.

This is my second attempt at selling it, the first went totally pear-shaped when I discovered I had been set up by 2 "friends" who took the bidding up to £1900, then of course backed out and didn't buy it.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

There is an option to change the nominee. You are currently the nominee but if you pay the DVLA £50, they will transfer it over to the new person. The retention form should have the info and they do millions of such transactions so it should be really easy.

Hope this helps & good luck with the sale!

You would simply put in the buyers full name, including title (exactly as it appears on the V5 registration document of the vehicle they will be putting the registration onto) under Section 1 of the V750 retention certificate you have. Once signed & dated, you would then send it off the DVLA with a cheque/PO for £25.00

Then in around 3-4 weeks the V750 retention certificate will be posted back to you with the buyers name added as a nominee. Please note that your details (name & address) will remain as the original purchaser. You would then simply sign Section 4 "Assigning a Mark" & send it off to the buyer, who can then at their end complete the transfer & put the registration number onto their vehicle.
