He may be lucky. It's a bit like how long is a piece of string. Does he want to give up? Most people who smoke, whatever their age have a bad cough.
Maybe he should see his doctor?Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

If he wants to give up smoking he will be giving himself the best chance by joining a smoking cessation clinic run by the NHS. This is what I did, after OH despaired of me ever being able to quit! Just a small group but you perservere as you don't want to be the first one to fall by the wayside!! The course lasted 8 weeks and all aids (patches, inhalators, etc) are supplied free. I'm not saying it was easy but I did it, much to the amazement of all my family! (Now, the weight I put on is another matter ...! However, I am working on it!)"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

If he asked my cardiologist that the reply would be "highly likely" i`m a smoker aged 50 whos smoked for 40 years and have been told if i dont stop i will 1)have a heart attack and 2)die.I have been to the smoking clinic and get the prescription for "champix"tomorrow0 -
GP's have a formula by which they can predict a smoker will have a heart attack or stroke within the next x years depending on patient age, health status, smoking habit. It's always worth remembering that neither heart attacks or strokes always kill, but they can leave someone heavily dependant on the care of others..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

The sad reality is that your friend has probably already got his seat booked "to the other place" already. A relative of mine, a lifelong smoker, gave up smoking two years before she actually sought problems for her her still persistent cough. She was diagnosed with lung cancer and was dead within three months. If your friend is serious about his health, he will at least give himself a fighting chance and give up now, however much effort it takes.0
