HSBC - lost application - a warning?

I applied for an HSBC card online back in January when as I recall they topped Martin's best buy recommendations.

I then received an email from them about 6-8 weeks ago apologising for the delay in processing my claim - they stated they had had an overwhelmng response to the product offer.

I still hadn't heard anything so I just called them today to ask what was happening and was firstly told they couldn't access my details and then I was told by another operator that my application had been lost and that I should reapply - the operator then explained that unfortunately the old offer has been withdrawn.

Didn't HSBC remove the cap from their 2% balance transfer recently? I wonder how many other applications have been 'lost' and the applicant asked to reapply since the removal of the capped fee?

Cheeky sods.

Based on all the stories I have heard about HSBC on here, I would never apply to them.

The HSBC credit cards, NOT the online card are very different beasts.

It was a case and this may have changed recently that when you apply for an HSBC card, you go to the internet, fill out all your stuff, they then post you the legals, you send it back.

    Then....
It get re-keyed as the app taking system does not talk directly to the acquisition/account setup system.

SWMBO had a problem a couple of years ago, not long after we moved to a new house. We received an intitial letter saying the app was going through and nothing else. This happened on two occasions (we gave up waiting and thaught it got lost the fist time). The second time after a couple of weeks, we phoned up and they could not find the app!

We gave up after that and went for another deal.

As I said, if you go for the HSBC online card, this is totally different beast and the systems do actually talk to each other!

I've had their credit card since March, and at Easter I applied for their online saver account. (There was a £20 sweetener so I thought why not?).

Never heard anything more about the application!

i shan't bother re-applying now, they sound shiudeous - i have been completely deterred from asking them for A KFI on a mortgage too.

What rankles is the fact that they have 'lost' ALL of my personal details. scary.

I applied mid-February and still do not have my card. It is the poorest service I have ever had from a credit card company. I am also somewhat cynical about the fact that I applied before they changed the offer ... and that they have no intention of honouring it. I must call them again.

I applied over the Easter weekend, eventually got my card early May & after twice checking that they would not apply the 2% uncapped fee as I had applied before they introduced it, did a BT. Of course they applied the fee & only very grudgingly removed it. Then, they did a statement run only 10 days after the account was opened & five days after the BT hit!

I had the misfortune of applying around the same time as you and it was a complete shambles. I will NEVER apply for any product this company offers as long as I live and would urge everyone else I know to do the same at any opportunity. They told me I had been accepted, I rec'd the credit agreement and sent it back. They said the card had been sent to me on 2 separate occasions by 2 different people and even told me my credit limit, then a week later said I had been declined. This was 8 weeks after applying and jumping through hoops. Appealed and complained and got nowhere at all, even wrote to chief executive who got someone to look into my case. I wrote back to chief exec who was leaving anyway to tell him what I thought of him and his company. Never did receive a reply :)

Basically they are a waste of space and dont deserve any customers.

I Applied like you over Easter, card came in early May, phoned and was told that a fee had to be applied to ALL balance transfers, so didn't bother.

After seeing this thread, I phoned HSBC on 01226 261 010. Spoke to a most uninterested woman, who was either eating whilst talking to me or chewing gum. With the same result as before 'a 2% fee will be charged for balance transfers' Ho Hum.

Its a pity because I had a good credit limit with this card. I'll leave it unactivated in a drawer until I get my £20 from the Easter offer and then cancel.
  • Yes.......

They are a joke...and in fact after going through all the pain and not returning my wage slip and other orignal documeants - i,am counting down the minutes when i can cancel ( 9 months fee free balance trasfer )

Plus after 4 requests for my pin - still not got

And the HSBC bank on oxford road in manchester - its like a soup kitchen inside with uncleaned up sick always outside
Tell it as it should be....
