E-mails - Where, why, how??

Options
Hi.

Please can someone tell me why this happens;

I am with BT as my SP, and so have them as my e-mail provider also. However, I only use OE to access my e-mails.
I suddenly stopped getting a subscription e-mail come through, it came every friday. I thought it strange, and checked my subscription details, and all was ok. I have just gone to the BT website, and accessed my account and e-mails through that, and I have over 400 messages in my inbox. Admittedly, most of that is spam, so am very gratefull it isn't coming through to OE, but, it might be Martins e-mail next that doesn't break through.

So, why and how does this happen?

Does your BT account exist in OE? Check Tools - Accounts - Mail tab. If it is there, double-click it and make sure 'Include this account when receiving email or synchronising' is ticked.

    Hi Chippy

I can't see anywhere for my BT account to go, after following your directions.

I had an email alert when you posted your reply, and it appeared in both my OE, and BT account.

I only use the one e-mail address.

    edit..
Ok, I have gone to my BT yahoo account, and there is an option to sync my OE account from there. If I do that, then am I opening up to all that spam?

But, still, how and why does it send some e-mails there and not to my OE??

That tells me your BT account already exists in OE. It should be listed on the Mail tab, named something like mail.btinternet.com. You can change that name.

Yes, but you should be able to delete any spam using the webmail interface and then it won't be downloaded to OE

I don't know. Try sending yourself a test email from OE. Close down OE as soon as the email has left your Outbox, login to your BT Yahoo account and view it there. Then start OE again and see if it downloads into your Inbox OK.

Surely it won't download from there if he reads it? If it's viewed on the web interface, then it's no longer 'new mail'. If that is the case, then OE shouldn't download it from the server, only the unread mail once he restarts it?

You can read web mail while away from home say and as long as it is left in the inbox it will still be download by your e-mail client on your PC.

    ;)

it doesn't 'send' it there, that's your email account and OE collects your mail from there.

Ok, sorry, but still not getting it. Why, does OE not 'get' all mail sent to my bt mail account? Why is it picking and choosing?
Again, I am kinda glad, because otherwise I would be inundated with spam, but, it may be an important e-mail that it chooses not to collect, like Martin's one.

Because your BT Mail account has automatic spam filtering!

Log into your account and click on Options at the right hand side and read about Spam Protection by clicking on that link where you can customise the settings.

OE will only collect e-mails that are in your inbox for collection.
