Where are these freakishly large wasps coming from?

Lol! I did throw my laptop down, but thankfully it still works! Wouldnt say i exactly rescued it, more waited for the wasp to leave
Fire fox - pretty sure it was a wasp and it was doing the bending thing, as it was attempting to sting my laptop over and over again-just glad it wasnt me.
Hornets look a lot like giant wasp ... in fact I have just looked it up and it is "Britain's largest wasp"! I thought it was just a relative.I'm glad it wasn't you too if you are allergic. If you may have a nest nearby I'd try to keep your windows closed as the queen might try to overwinter in your nice warm house.

From the Beeb
"The "super wasps" belong to a strain which grows to more than twice the size of native British species which live underground or in lofts"
Eeeek! _pale_ _pale_ _pale_My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead

One of the cats heard it and jumped over and went nuts at the gas fire. I moved something and this thing crawled out. I stood on it pretty quickly, didn't want the cat stung.
the gas fire was out by the way.
There was something in one of paper about giant wasps from aboard heading our way.
Giant wasps from abroad heading our way?!?!
I hate wasps, I don't know why they exist at all, horrible things.0 -
Wasps - horrible thingsI need to feel the fear and do it anyway0

Another thing when people say stand still and dont annoy them and they wont bother of sting you, THEY ARE LIEINGGGGG lol.
Think my laptops proof of this! As it certainly wasnt trying to run away or flap about, yet the wasp continued to attack and sting it
Think my mum got the foreign wasp idea, as sh has just returned from Turkey and they apparently have freakishly large wasps there.
Firefox - dont think i have a nest nearby, as live very near the seafront and all the wasps so far have fallen out of seagulls! (that i have seen anyway.) But im going to take your advice anyway, as dont want the queen wasp (imagine the size of her! ) taking up residence. I to thought the hornet was a relative of wasp, so at least i have learnt something new from all this!0 -
Urgh, wasps! We live in a top floor flat and there's a wasps nest above us in the attic. The trouble is, the attic is inaccessible from the inside. Had a pest control blokey over today and he couldn't get to the nest - in fact he couldn't see it.
They are getting it from God knows where and are in the house every day. And they are MASSIVE! Plugged every hole in the house I know (lights wiring etc) and they are still coming in! Urrgghhh! Thankfully, noone here got stung yet.
When are they going to DIE?!0 -

They may not die if they are being kept warm by heat escaping from your flat. Are you a leasehold flat? Have you formally requested the freeholder or management company deal with it from the outside? Ours definitely do pest control (city centre so rats in basement ). If you stand outside on a warm day you should be able to work out where the wasps are getting in.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
I am renting but not sure who is responsible for the whole block, though. I will speak to the landlord and see what he can do.
I know where they are getting in into the roof, but not from the roof to the flat.
Just plain annoying, not to mention potentially dangerous.0 -
We are getting them in the house, at least 1 a week since October but couple of things
- We don't have a loft at all, odd house
- We have recently moved in inc totally decorated & no nests noticed
- No air bricks etc as prefab
One day I might be more organised...........

...I have just had a very weird experiance with 2 wasps. Earlier on i was sitting outside with my laptop (sounds like madness in October, but i couldnt get a good wireless reception indoors!
) and a seagull flew over and dropped the biggest wasp i have ever seen onto me! I jumped up and the wasp landed on my laptop, (im allergic to bee and wasp stings by the way) and then it proceeded to try and sting my laptop keys repeatedly....
Are you sure that he wasn't just checking his bee-mail?? :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Marching On Together
I've upped my standards...so up yours!0
