I don't think I've ever met a 10kg book! The heaviest one I own is 4kg (somewhat ironically titled "Concise" Household Encyclopedia!), and I'm fairly sure it's heavier than a single volume of the Encyclopaedia Brittanica.bleugh wrote:erm.................if you knew the postage before hand, why bid?
4 books????, what books are they?, a volume of encyclopedia britannica could weigh 10Kg, and 40Kg from USA to UK at $70 is bloody cheap
weigh them yourself and price it up at https://www.royalmail.co.uk
I don't know about sending items from the USA to UK, but from UK to USA I think it's actually cheaper sending separate small parcels ather than one big heavy one: standard Airmail small packet prices only cover packages up to 2kg.
Compulsory insurance should not be paid for in the case of RM parcels worth less than £32, since that's the amount of insurance cover included in standard postage.0 -
What kind of site is this that edits out the name of a 'rogue' ebay site?
It is essential that these kind of rotten practises are drawn to peoples attention. It is reprehensible that these kind of sites are permitted to trade. Ebay doesn't give a damn (I have written to them) just so long as thet make money from that site. I have contacted about 300 dissatisfied customers from that site encouraging them to write en-masse to eBay with their greivances.0 -
I'd have to echo what others have said: why would you bid on an auction if the seller had so many negatives, and why question the postage charge afterwards?
Ebay will tell you that they are just a venue, that you should check feedback and charges before bidding. Unfortunately, while people continue to bid and thus accept high p&p charges, sellers will continue to charge them.
Have you pulled the sellers details and phoned them to ask about the postage charge?
ETA: You always have the option of leaving negative feedback if you want to warn other buyers that someone overcharges for postage. Feedback is supposed to be a reflection of the transaction, so if it's left you upset, reflect that in your feedback.0 -

Woah calm down, calm down! With all the fees, selling on Ebay is not always profitable. The fact remains that you bid on an item KNOWING that it would cost $70 for them to post it to you. If that is 'unreasonable' as you say it is, why did you bid on the first place?
Ebay is a great place to find bargains or items you can't find elsewhere. There are plenty of rules in place to ensure the process is equitable. Additionally, MSE is not a place to name and shame sellers, especially if they haven't done wrong as I feel is in this case!0 -
I just has a quick look on a us postal service site and for a 5lb package it can cost from $26 ( for a 6 week surface delivery) to over $70 for a fast delivery.
Like others have said if you dont like the terms DONT BID0 -

How is it a rogue site???? They stated the postage costs to you BEFORE you bid including the discount for multiple purchases....so why bid then complain when they charge you what they said they would?????? What have they done that makes them a "rogue" site?? And with so many negs against them..why did you even bother to bid on their auctions?
As for e-mailing 300 of their customers..... that made me laugh.....you obviously have plenty of time on your hands....you should take up reading to occupy your time... :-)
Mikeif i had known then what i know now0
